Abstract
The Tree of Good and BadContents This book chronicles the life of a student in Franco´s Spain. Set in an unnamed Andalucian city, it tells the life story of the scholar Pablo Campos, a boy that begins school at the age of five, in 1956, and abandons it at sixteen in the mythical 1968. The underlying theme is the discovery of the life in which the protagonist possesses a radical inocence until, little by little, he distances himself from the ideas that they intend to instill in him in school, in order to create a form of thinking for himself. The friendship, the respect of his peers, the finding of essential values, the love of life and the feeling of appear like themes of discovery and conquering from the perspective of a boy who, facing all of it, is becoming a man. Author José Manuel Esteve Zaragoza is a professor of Educational Theory at the University of Málaga. He has been a visiting professor, among other places, at the Catholic University of Chile, the University of Buenos Aires, and the University of the Rosary in Argentina. Among his numerous publications are La formación del sentido crítico (Docencia, Buenos Aires, 1986), Los profesores ante el cambio social (Anthropos, Barcelona, 1995) and La formación inicial de los profesores de secundaria (Ariel, Barcelona, 1997). His work has been translated into French, English, Italian, and Portugese.

Fue Catedrático de Teoría de la Educación en la Universidad de Málaga; autor de una veintena de libros entre los que destacan: El malestar docente (2004) y La tercera revolución educativa (2004), ambos en la editorial Paidós; y El árbol del bien y del mal (2008) y Camino de retorno (2009), ambos en la Editorial Octaedro. El profesor Esteve trabajó como consultor de UNESCO, como experto de la Agencia Europea de Educación en la redacción del Informe Theteachingprofession in Europe: Profile, trendsandconcerns y como experto de la Red Permanente del Programa de Formación de Profesores para América Latina de la Organización de Estados Iberoamericanos (O.E.I.). En 2008, la Universidad de Oviedo, en el marco del Cuarto Centenario de la creación de la Universidad (1608- 2008) le otorgó el título de Doctor Honoris Causa.
